The 35SQN Facility is part of the Battlefield Airlifter (BFA) Project. We were the lead design consultant to managing contractor, Laing O’Rourke.

The facilities will support and sustain 35SQN operations and will allow the new C-27J Spartan aircraft to relocate from RAAF Base Richmond to RAAF Base Amberley. The facilities include squadron headquarters, hangars, maintenance facilities, propulsion workshop, avionics workshop, metal workshop, surface finishing, aircraft life support, logistics and deployment facilities plus the large apron to carry the full squadron at constant operational capacity.

The Spartan will provide airlift of people, equipment and supplies. Its capabilities bridge the gap between Army helicopters and larger Air Force aircraft, such as the C-130J Hercules and C-17A Globemaster III.  Much like the Hercules and Globemaster, the Spartan can; airdrop cargo and paratroops in-flight, airlift a variety of cargo loads, and conduct aeromedical evacuation of sick or wounded personnel.
