The Training Systems Facility is part of the Battlefield Airlifter (BFA) Project. We designed the project in collaboration with Hassell, working as sub-consultants of managing contractor, Laing O’Rourke. The building includes training facilities to support the introduction of the new C-27J Spartan aircraft to 35SQN in its relocation from RAAF Base Richmond to RAAF Base Amberley.
The Spartan will provide airlift of people, equipment and supplies. Its capabilities bridge the gap between Army helicopters and larger Air Force aircraft, such as the C-130J Hercules and C-17A Globemaster III. Much like the Hercules and Globemaster, the Spartan can; airdrop cargo and paratroops in-flight, airlift a variety of cargo loads, and conduct aeromedical evacuation of sick or wounded personnel.
The Training Systems Facility comprises of; working accommodation including offices, meeting rooms, classrooms and briefing rooms; active training devices including fuselage trainer, flight simulator and part task trainers; maintenance facilities; and training storage for pallets used in fuselage training activities.
