The Health and Medical Research Building (HMRB) will be the backdrop to world-class research through its state-of-the-art spaces, including wet and dry laboratories, work areas and public spaces. The first building in the new Flinders University Village Campus, HMRB will house scientists and staff from the College of Medicine and Public Health and the College of Nursing and Health Sciences.

Architectus has designed spaces that will facilitate collaborative, focused and innovative research and cast a spotlight on the human-centred outcomes of that research. Ultimately, HMRB will enhance researcher and clinician communication with the broader University community and public. Equipped to accommodate cutting-edge technologies, the building will also create a connective environment that facilitates opportunities for people to learn from each other and work together towards optimal research outcomes.

Aligning with Flinders University’s core values, Integrity, Courage, Innovation and Excellence, HMRB targets International WELL Building Institute Gold rating and a Green Building Council Five Green Star rating. The building also reflects a considered Indigenous narrative and will be a culturally inclusive and safe space.

Situated on a sloped site with a 14-metre fall, HMRB has been designed to act as an accessible thoroughfare to the main campus. There are also practical routes to the Flinders University Sturt and Bedford Park campuses, Flinders Medical Centre, Flinders Private Hospital, and the new Flinders train station.

Architectus held more than 250 Stakeholder Workshops during the design development of HMRB as part of an extensive engagement process.
