A new Rockhampton Performing Arts and Convention Centre (RPACC) provides an opportunity to leverage on the established reputation of the Pilbeam Theatre in the community and on the regional and national touring circuits providing flexible stage-of-the-art facilities commensurate with a significant regional city.

Built on the existing Pilbeam Theatre and Art Gallery site and offering both Performing Arts and Convention Centre facilities on the one site, affords Rockhampton Regional Council (RRC) an excellent opportunity to provide a place for a broader section of the regional community to come together.

Positive economies of scale would result from a combined Performing Arts Centre and Convention Centre operation with an overall corporate management model of RPACC with specialist market sector personnel managing the specific requirements for Performing Arts and Conventions to ensure the best service delivery to their particular market demographics.

The site is strategically located addressing the Fitzroy River, between the CBD and Sports and Showground precinct. Development of the RPACC site with a significant civic space will support Rockhampton Regional Council’s investment in the CBD public realm and facilities, support local business and community and will activate the Fitzroy Riverfront.

The site offers an opportunity to bookend Quay Lane with a dignified civic space and will contribute to councils investment in developing an active riverfront precinct. RPACC will offer a series of public spaces to host city wide events.

Inspired by Rockhampton’s architecture and distinctive geology these features are woven into the fabric of the building, celebrating the unique qualities of the region.
