The Provence Centre is a new landmark building at Brisbane’s Iona College, designed to bring the entire school and wider community together for large college gatherings and sporting events.
The client’s vision called for a multi-purpose building that would strengthen the school’s sporting facilities and accommodate up to 2400 students, teachers and parents for liturgical and College functions – not previously possible on the campus.
The Centre features an Olympic-sized volleyball court, basketball courts, fixed and retractable seating, a running track, weights gymnasium, flexible learning areas, commercial kitchen, staff room, and associated amenities.
The Centre has been conceived as a key insertion that resolves a number of difficult pedestrian connections between adjacent buildings on the steeply sloping site. The development formalises the existing walkway to and from Lindum Station – the major point of access to the college for students. The new arcade replaces a route through a carpark with a dynamic and engaging spatial form, while offering an enhanced civic identity for Iona within the broader community.
