The Blacktown Exercise Sports and Technology Hub (BEST) Hub is a state-of-the-art facility designed to make a positive impact on community health, research, sports performance, and rehabilitation with Architectus delivering the innovative Landscape Architectural design, alongside ARM the building Architects.

Located in one of the fastest growing municipalities in Australia, the new multi-discliplinary facility is the centrepiece of the popular Blacktown International Sports Park Sydney.

The vision is for an internationally recognised sporting precinct with leading-edge training and competition facilities for professional teams, sub-elite athletes, and rising stars. It’s also a sports science and allied health facility where both athletes and the general public can be treated in consulting facilities with the latest equipment and technology.

Space for ‘physical literacy’

The project includes a new ‘physical literacy’ open space that promotes the physical, psychological, social, and cognitive benefits of lifelong movement and activity.

This innovative space for all ages is destined to be an exciting new drawcard for the precinct. Inclusive by design, it’s aimed at getting everyone moving – young, old, rehabilitating athletes, elite sports people, regular users, or one-time visitors. The design focuses on skills for coordination, balance, sensory and strength, from learning the fundamentals to honing advanced skills.

Smart, sensitive solutions

Working closely with Blacktown City Council, ARM Architecture, and other consultants, our Landscape Architecture team developed a distinctive yet economical design that integrates the BEST Hub facilities and new fields with the existing Sports Park.

Part of the process involved finding smart design solutions to storm water, excavation, and accessibility issues for a heavily used site expected to see an additional 300,000 visitors per year.
