700 George Street
Architectus provided statutory planning services working in collaboration with JPW Architects for an architectural scheme for a 40-storey tower at 700 George Street in Haymarket, Sydney’s CBD. The building comprises principally of a hotel, but also includes residential and commercial tenancies. Architectus prepared a Statement of Environmental Effects and collaborated with JPW Architects to prepare a Design Competition brief to support a Concept Development Application for lodgement to the City of Sydney.
Throughout the process, Architectus overcame several challenges. Being a constrained urban site meant working within the confined surrounding context. In particular, being located so close to the decade-old, 36-storey Inmark Tower on George Street, it was important to consider the impact of the development on the residents – especially preserving their solar access. Through negotiation with City of Sydney, the project team ameliorated the impacts and resolved issues relating to an existing residential building that adjoins the site to the south.
