The Strategy established detailed guidelines to support a range of planning, community and environmental issues. The strategy provides an overall framework for managing the future growth of the locality.
Whilst contributing to the overall strategy Architectus focused on understanding the urban design character of the area through a detailed identification and analysis of 28 separate precincts within the LGA. This detailed understanding of existing conditions, opportunities and constraints was then fundamental to the drafting of strategies strongly grounded in local characteristics.
A further key task was to prepare rail station precinct revitalisation plans that both applied and tested the draft strategies, as well as providing demonstration projects for future implementation.
The project received an award for Urban Planning Achievement from the NSW chapter of the Planning Institute of Australia. The project was recognised by PIA as demonstrating “a comprehensive and well structured approach to an urban strategy”. The award citation also recognised the strong precinct based urban design method employed by Architectus.
