The car park at Belgrave Station is undergoing redevelopment into a new multilevel site adjacent to the rail corridor at Belgrave, Victoria. With 659 vehicle spaces over four levels, the upgrade will replace the current car park and comfortably serve the station and surrounding community. The scope includes upgrades to the existing pedestrian paths to ensure safety and accessibility, the bus interchange, and access road improvements for commuters and buses – to be delivered separately to the main car park development.
ADCO Constructions engaged Architectus to develop the reference design delivered by VicTrack. We envisaged a new design narrative that informs the facade design and architectural language during the delivery phase, bringing construction procurement and steel saving efficiencies. In collaboration with ADCO, we managed stakeholder input from MTM (Operator), OVGA and the local council. The process has ensured that the design is functional and within the conditions of the pre-approved planning submission delivered at reference design.
The design and construction will incorporate additional structures to support a future connecting link to Burwood Highway and the shopping district of Belgrave via a bridge across the rail line to Blacksmiths Way to the north of the site. This car park project is considered a new gateway building for Belgrave, Dandenong Ranges and the Puffin Billy tourist attraction. It is the first step to a complete station upgrade in the future.
