State Library Victoria wins Melbourne Prize in AIA VIC awards

State Library Victoria wins three awards in the 2020 AIA VIC Chapter awards

We are thrilled to announce the State Library Victoria Vision 2020 Redevelopment as the recipient of the Melbourne Prize together with awards for Heritage – Conservation and Public architecture in the 2020 Australian Institute of Architects Victorian Chapter awards program.

The redevelopment opens 40% more space to the public and returns the magnificent Ian Potter Queens Hall to the city for everyone’s use and enjoyment. Designed by Architectus and Schmidt Hammer Lassen Architects, the redevelopment reveals the beautiful scale and detail of each space and makes the visitor experience cohesive and enjoyable; connecting people to the Library’s wonderful collections, to each other and to our community.

“It’s a huge honour to receive the Melbourne Prize and incredible to have received a total of three awards in a field of such amazing projects. All practices should be congratulated and thanks goes especially to AIA and the juries for achieving an exceptional awards program in such challenging circumstances. This project means so much to our practice and we can’t wait until the people of Melbourne can experience and enjoy the redevelopment again”, Architectus Principal Ruth Wilson said.
