Architectus Conrad Gargett projects commended at the Regional Architecture Awards

Last Friday, the Australian Institute of Architects (AIA) Queensland Chapter held an awards ceremony at Brisbane’s Howard Smith Wharves to announce Greater Brisbane’s best projects.

We are thrilled to have three Architectus projects – Catherine’s House for Mothers, Babies and Families, UQ Brisbane City, and Redlands Satellite Hospital – commended across four categories and progressing to the state Queensland Architecture Awards.

Catherine’s House for Mothers Babies and Families
Catherine’s House is Queensland’s largest and most comprehensive integrated perinatal mental healthcare facility, providing life-changing support to women, babies and families.
Our team reimagined a 1920s convent at Mater Hill in South Brisbane into a contemporary healthcare facility that feels welcoming and homely while meeting high-level clinical requirements.

Catherine’s House for Mothers Babies and Families has received two commendations in the Heritage and Public Architecture categories.

UQ Brisbane City in collaboration with BVN

The National Australia Bank is regarded as one of the most significant heritage buildings in Brisbane, designed by local architect Francis Drummond Greville Stanley.

The adaptation of the heritage building presented an opportunity for The University of Queensland to establish an identity with both the external appearance and spatially rich interiors. A deeply respectful approach of minimal interference with the heritage fabric was balanced with the need for modern amenity and technology. This project expands the university’s presence in the CBD and fosters greater connection between students, staff, alumni and industry partners.

UQ Brisbane City was commended in the Heritage category.

Redlands Satellite Hospital in collaboration with Fulton Trotter Architects

The Redlands Satellite Hospital is a major healthcare facility in southeast Queensland, offering minor injuries and illness care, medical day, cancer care and outpatient services.
The guiding design principles considered the patient journey from street to clinic and connections between inside and outside. The design features include bringing external materials inside, corridors with views of the landscape, high-level windows, and courtyards encouraging daylight and view deep within the plan. This project is one of the facilities delivered under the state government’s Queensland Satellite Hospital program.

Redlands Satellite Hospital was commended in the Public Architecture category.
