ABC Radio speaks to Architectus about designing a cooler, greener Western Sydney

ABC Radio recently spoke with Architectus’ Oscar Stanish and Bligh Tanner’s Alan Hoban on the Urban Typologies and Stormwater Management Report

Architectus’ Oscar Stanish and Bligh Tanner’s Alan Hoban were recently interviewed by ABC Radio to discuss the work they have been doing with Sydney Water.

Architectus and Bligh Tanner were tasked with creating a transformative urban design approach to stormwater management to integrate with engineering solutions. Building typologies were investigated that respect and retain the unique and ecologically diverse waterways of Sydney’s Wianamatta South Creek.

The Urban Typologies and Stormwater Management Report follows the design, analysis and testing of multiple urban typologies. One of the significant findings was that temperatures can be reduced by up to 4.6 degrees on average by innovative streetscape design and stormwater capture in new developments.

The aim of the project was to change the way cities are designed and built to create a more resilient and liveable place to live, work and play. This was the perfect opportunity to bring together the best minds in urban design, planning and engineering to deliver a solution that is pioneering, innovative and collaborative. This project sets a new benchmark for the integration of urban design, planning and sustainable stormwater management. Its implementation will achieve the State Government’s objectives of a cool, green and sustainable Western Parkland City.
