Located on Bidjigal Country, UNSW Sydney’s 12‑storey G25 Education Building is conceived as a flagship vertical campus. The building supports teaching and learning at scale while enriching everyday campus life.
It hosts a range of next-generation indoor and outdoor informal learning spaces and, by enhancing connectivity across the Upper Campus, G25 extends Library Walk and provides a striking axial termination to Chancellery Walk.
A new campus gateway
G25 creates a new gateway identity, revitalising UNSW Sydney’s Gate 11 entry and transforming it into an active student hub.
The building’s form responds thoughtfully to its immediate and broader context and its façade adapts to light, view and function.
An open and inviting ground plane seamlessly connects the public domain with interior spaces, significantly improving safety throughout the precinct.
The project includes a substantial upgrade to the public domain, ensuring safe separation of pedestrians and vehicles. Newly planted trees and native understorey vegetation frame the space.
At the intersection of Chancellery Walk and Library Walk, a new plaza comes to life, featuring a café that opens onto a terrace, embraced by the building’s stepped-back form.
This revitalisation enhances the entry and arrival experience at the Botany Street carpark, providing 24/7 public access through the building.
Designed for student wellbeing
G25 prioritises occupant wellbeing and connection to the landscape with interstitial spaces, including informal student seating on the ground level, a mid-rise external learning terrace and extensive internal planting. Winter gardens rise through the building’s central void, creating visual connections to landscape for students across multiple levels.
Along the façade, a series of semi-circular ‘rooms’ offer inclusive learning settings responding to the needs of a neurodiverse student cohort. Supporting student choice, the acoustics, lighting and colour in these spaces create different experiences on alternate floors.
The design features three double-height, large-capacity teaching venues, serving as key destinations within the building. These are accessed via express escalators for efficient student movement.
On the upper floors, G25 also integrates research and clinical facilities for UNSW’s School of Psychology, further embedding wellbeing and evidence-based practice into the heart of the campus.
Culturally sensitive and sustainable design
Collaborating with the local Indigenous community, facilitated by Yerrabingin, our team designed a building that embodies inclusivity and genuine cultural respect.
G25 is aiming for Green Star certification and is targeting a Platinum WiredScore to ensure a robust and resilient future for the facility.
Together, these strategies position G25 as a benchmark for future-focused, inclusive tertiary learning environments.
The building received State Significant Development Approval in March 2026 and is targeting completion in early 2028.
