Heritage

For over 130 years, our team has led the way in the award-winning conservation and adaptive reuse of heritage buildings – work underpinned by a deep appreciation for the historic fabric of our cities. We artfully connect our design solutions to the origins of a place through preservation, restoration, repurpose or adaptation.

We begin with a deep understanding of the site – the historical and cultural narratives and unique physical elements woven into a place’s identity. We also examine historical documents and consult heritage groups and communities to establish a clear vision.

Our aim: to balance original design elements conveying a sense of place with just enough enhancements to revitalise a building for contemporary needs. This careful treatment ensures heritage buildings are appreciated by modern audiences, serve a greater function, and generate income, all while retaining their significance.

Our projects include the globally recognised Africa Hall Redevelopment, the award-winning State Library Victoria, and the Queensland Ballet’s Thomas Dixon Centre.
