Kolorer College is a welcoming and inclusive campus for up to 865 students, located on Wurundjeri Woi Wurrung Country in Melbourne’s outer west. As a supported inclusion school, the new school buildings incorporate additional accessibility features, providing support for up to 65 students with disabilities, within a vibrant and equitable learning environment.
A central heart for connection
The campus is thoughtfully organised around a central “school heart” – a landscaped outdoor space embraced by the learning buildings. This sheltered area provides a clearly identifiable social and recreational focal point, encouraging interaction and fostering a strong sense of community.
Inclusive and adaptable learning environments
The design of the teaching and learning areas has inclusivity at its core. Spaces are inherently flexible, adaptable, and come in a variety of sizes to seamlessly accommodate diverse group activities and cater to the spectrum of learning needs.
Accessibility is prioritised through the inclusion of an elevated bridge link between buildings, which allows students to circulate easily across learning areas, without having to return to ground level.
Materiality inspired by Country
Individual colour palettes for each building were carefully curated through engagement with the Wurundjeri Woi Wurrung Cultural Heritage Aboriginal Corporation. The colours reflect the rivers and creeks, the pre-colonial native grasslands and the deep red soil – elements that characterise the ancient landscape upon which the school stands, embedding a sense of place and Country within the school’s identity.
Our Education team is leading the design for a range of other new public schools designed to meet the needs of Victoria’s growing communities, including the VSBA New Schools 2026 bundle.
