This vital schools precinct in Sydney’s northwest draws on our practice’s entire multi-disciplinary offer and our deep expertise in Education, including with pattern book design.

The project’s integrated approach to design is set to create a more connected, purposeful setting for students, staff, and community.

A generous campus for a growing community

Responding to significant growth in Box Hill and surrounding areas, the education precinct will provide three new schools on one large campus:

-a preschool for 60 children
-a primary school for 1000 students, and
-a high school for 2000 students, delivered in two stages.

The project also represents a significant first for New South Wales public education, with the preschool integrated into the primary school building.

As Principal Design Consultant, Architectus is completing the Master Plan, Concept Design, and Schematic Design for the Box Hill Public School and Box Hill High School.

Complex challenges overcome

Both the project and the site are complex, with the topography presenting a cross-fall of over 12 metres from north-east to south-west.

Through our holistic approach to design, our Architecture and Landscape Architecture teams worked with the client to address these challenging site constraints, aligning them with the state’s pattern book requirements while also fulfilling the needs of school stakeholders.

While the built-form mostly follows this pattern book, there are small departures from the approach in the Hall and Administration building on campus.

A cascading effect

Both the architecture and the landscape play a crucial role in establishing a clear, unified identity for the three schools.

Connections to Country can be seen and felt through our concept of ‘flow’, with buildings and outdoor spaces ‘cascading’ across the site and natural elements acting as extensions of the learning environment.
