Sydney Modern Project achieves major construction milestone

The Art Gallery of NSW Sydney Modern Project concrete foundation poured

The Art Gallery of NSW Sydney Modern Project has achieved a major construction milestone after the concrete foundations for the Art Gallery’s new building were poured in late September.

Expected to be completed in 2022, the Sydney Modern Project will create a global art museum for a global city with new and expanded spaces for art, live performance and film, along with spaces to study and participate in cultural programs, including a prominent destination for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander art.

As Executive Architect, Architectus has worked closely with Pritzker prize-winning architects SANAA on all aspects of the project briefing, the attainment of a 6 Star Green Star Design rating, the production of comprehensive documentation and a successful planning application approval.

Setting new benchmarks for sustainable design in cultural institutions, the Sydney Modern Project will be Australia’s first public art museum to achieve the highest environmental standard for design.
