Luke Johnson speaks on Macquarie University Ainsworth Building

Architectus Principal, Luke Johnson speaks at Wood Solution Webinar: Macquarie University Ainsworth Building by Architectus and Arup.

In an online webinar hosted by Wood Solutions, Architectus Principal Luke Johnson will be joined by Arup’s Mike King and Kengo Takamatsu for a discussion about the award-winning Macquarie University Ainsworth Building, Faculty of Medicine & Health Services project.

Presented with a unique opportunity to realise contemporary pedagogical teaching spaces in a beautiful, purpose-built environment – the Macquarie University appointed team collaborated to create an inviting, light, and airy building, reflecting the wonderful Australian bushland that’s unique to the University campus setting.

W-shaped hardwood columns at the entrance are a defining feature, transferring vertical loads to the ground, glue-laminated Spruce for the internal columns and beams, CLT Spruce for internal floors, lift core, and shear walls. A double-glazed glass facade reveals the timber structure’s precise geometry, drawing optimal daylight into interior spaces. Within, timber gives a cohesive and welcoming tactility across various learning spaces.

The online event will be held on Tuesday, 16th February at 11:00am.
