Architectus-designed museum at centre of Australia’s largest dinosaur discovery

Australia’s largest dinosaur whose fossilised remains are studied and housed at the Eromanga Natural History Museum, designed by Architectus, has been officially named.

This week the Queensland Premier and Minister of Trade, The Honourable Annastacia Palaszczuk, and Minister for Tourism Industry Development and Innovation and Minister for Sport, The Honourable Stirling Hinchliffe, announced that a new species of giant sauropod dinosaur discovered in Eromanga is to be named Australotitan cooperensis.

Located in the 35 people strong remote town of Eromanga, the natural history museum is designed to house 95-million-year-old dinosaur fossils, 100,000-year-old megafauna fossils, and in the future, a 30-meter-long 6-metre-high replica model of Australotitan cooperensis,

Architectus has been working with Robyn Mackenzie, Director of the Eromanga Natural History Museum, and her team to realise the new museum since 2018.

The project, led by Architectus Associate Stephanie Donigi and Principal and National Public Sector Leader Dr Stephen Long, has reached completion of Stage 1, with Stage 2a providing research laboratories and holotype room currently under construction.
