Architectus to design new bridges at Perth Airport’s T1 International

Architectus has been appointed to design new bridges at Perth Airport’s T1 International

We have been appointed to design new bridges that will incorporate ramps and lifts and will connect passengers to the aircraft through new dual aerobridges.

The original international terminal completed in 1986 required departing passengers to descend from the second-floor departure concourse, down several flights of stairs to reach the aircraft link bridge level. The terminal has since gone through numerous updates in both departures and arrivals facilities and general expansion but three gates, 52 to 54, still maintain the original stair configuration.

The delivery of this project will enable greater operational efficiencies for the airport and airlines and improve aircraft turnaround times.

Opening its doors in December 2018, Architectus’ Perth Studio has established itself within the local market with Principal and Perth Studio Leader Mark Mitcheson-Low, Senior Associate Alf Seeling and Project Leader Marc Torres bringing many years of local and international experience to the project team. Both Mark and Alf have previously been involved in various projects for Perth Airport including master planning, terminal upgrades, ancillary buildings, and new terminals.

Principal and Perth Studio Leader Mark Mitcheson-Low says, “Architectus is currently working nationally across all major airports, including Western Sydney Airport’s rail feasibility and projects at Melbourne, Sydney, and Brisbane airports. We are pleased to be able to bring our national and international experience to enhance and improve facilities at Perth Airport.”
