The Tamworth Hospital Redevelopment increases capacity through refurbished facilities and a new five-storey acute services building.
The renewed facility provides a hub for medical, surgical and other specialties in the region, as well as consultancy outreach and support for chronic and complex disease management across the whole community.
Notable features of the new building include an expanded Emergency Department; Theatre Suite; a women’s and children’s floor incorporating Birthing, Paediatrics and Special Care Nursery; and a new Mortuary with an associated landscaped courtyard.
The existing buildings were refurbished to provide expanded outpatient services including a Renal Unit, Outpatient Hub, Hospital in the Home and education spaces.
Our design features a tapestry of external wall panels responding to the diverse hospital functions required on each floor.
The façade’s colour palette references Tamworth’s rustic landscape, the diversity of its inhabitants and its First Nations community.
The project involved a strategic urban planning solution that provides a new entry forecourt to the campus. This new urban space is enclosed by the new acute services building and incorporates the existing 1880 hospital building.
The scheme responds to the sloping site while creating a seamless connection between the existing and new facilities.
A new vehicle ring road provides clear, separate access paths for outpatients, emergency and logistic vehicles to the site.
