Our landscape design for this multi-school precinct in Sydney’s growing western suburbs makes genuine connections to Country via the concept of ‘flow’: the flow of water running through the site, the flow of ecology changing with the topography, and the flow of learning.
Woven throughout the site, this theme creates a cohesive campus while still allowing for tailored responses to three distinct learning environments located within it.
The new Box Hill campus incorporates a new public high school and primary school as well as a pre-school – the first integrated space for early learners within a School Infrastructure NSW project.
Our multi-disciplinary team of architects and landscape architects worked with the client to test the master plan and deliver design services from concept to schematic design.
The result is a thoughtfully designed campus where the buildings are integrated into the sloped site, with seamless connections between indoor and outdoor learning spaces.
A dynamic landscape
The landscape design creates a dynamic and inclusive environment incorporating sports fields and playing courts, open lawn areas for active recreation and time out, playgrounds for younger students, and a variety of outdoor spaces for learning and gathering.
A central swale runs through the site to collect site water to recharge Country. Native planting enhances the site’s ecology and provides habitat for non-human kin.
Places to explore and connect with Country
The landscape design also encourages exploration and connection with the natural world and Dharug culture, giving students a greater sense of the ecological systems that sustain them.
Gathering spaces integrated into the landscape facilitate social interactions, reinforcing community ties and shared values.
