Collins Wharf 5 & 6 is a new development that will deliver high-quality inner-city housing for Melbourne’s growing population.
Situated at the end of Collins Wharf, where Melbourne’s CBD grid extends into the Yarra River, the two towers comprise a total of 566 residential units, including high-rise apartments, podium residences and townhouses. This development will cater for diverse housing needs and grow the Dockland’s community.
The project is designed to be a human-scale neighbourhood. The towers will be set back and stepped down towards the wharf’s point to accentuate pedestrian-scale townhouse living along the ground plane. Meanwhile, pocket gardens will blend the development with the Yarra River’s bank.
Capitalising on formerly industrial land straddling the river and Victoria Harbour, Collins Wharf will re-engage Melbourne with this historic waterfront. The new adjacent Eco Park will connect the development with the City of Melbourne’s “Greenline”, a continuous landscaped trail along the Yarra River’s northern bank.
The building’s materiality will also take inspiration from the site’s layered history with colours and textures referencing the harbour and its maritime industry, as well as the river and its marshland geology.
Sitting beside the Bolte Bridge, it will become a new visual gateway for Melbourne. With plans for illuminated crowns, the towers will integrate into the evolving Docklands skyline, becoming beacons for those arriving in the city from the north and west.
