Balancing the needs of players and patrons, our design solution for the East Fremantle Community Park has versatility at its core, ensuring the sporting hub works for its many users today – and adapts to changing needs in the future.
Our challenge was to combine a multitude of uses, while minimising costs and meeting specific sporting code requirements.
The project included:
-an upgraded home-base and oval for the East Fremantle Sharks
-a 500-capacity grandstand
-club rooms
-bowls and croquet clubs, with greens for each
-fitness studios, and
-a café and community spaces.
The geometry of sport
Inspired by the nearby Swan River, the main building’s geometry flows around the community activities and sports that it services.
The design, subtle at first glance, is revealed in layers, intensifying to activate the heart of the precinct.
One of the planning successes is the multi-purpose Function Centre which ties seamlessly into the Lawn Bowls club and the Football Oval.
A future-proofed financial model
A multi-decade community dream realised, the community park provides hardworking, multi-purpose facilities that are setup for success.
The project’s future-proofing financial model co-locates sports organisations, facilitating revenue-generating assets over the long term.
