A landmark Hines office tower at 600 Collins Street

Architectus and design practice WilkinsonEyre have revealed their conceptual design for a major new office tower plus public spaces at 600 Collins Street, Melbourne, following development submission by international real estate firm Hines.

The striking, 180m tall skyscraper will transform Melbourne’s most prominent business address into a vibrant meeting place.

This signature commercial project will sit across 70 metres of prime Collins Street frontage and offer more than 60,000 square metres of future focussed workplace. It will be adaptable and purposeful and deliver a wealth of spaces for an increasingly mobile hybrid workforce, focused on user experience.

The building will promote employee vitality and tenant resilience providing the highest level of amenities ever seen in a Melbourne development. With a design underpinned by strong wellbeing principles, 600 Collins reflects the latest thinking in sustainable and healthy workplaces. The project will achieve a minimum 6 Star Green Star target rating from the Green Building Council of Australia, as well as a Platinum WELL Certification for its shell and core.

Tenants and visitors can leverage the tower’s great range of amenities that together form a meaningful cultural workplace hub. The amenities include premium hospitality, generous rooftop terraces and outdoor spaces, conference and collaboration zones, a wellness centre and integrated biophilia across indoor and outdoor environments, providing true flexibility and alternative places to meet, work and gather.

The tower’s curved facade dramatically plays with light, making it a distinctive, sculptural addition to the Melbourne skyline and city centre.

Designed to embrace and enhance the fine-grain laneways around it, 600 Collins also represents a great outcome for wider Melbourne, with a new pedestrian connection, improvements to public spaces and a lively street front.

Matthew Smith, National Sector Leader for Commercial at Architectus, said: “Architectus and WilkinsonEyre collaborated to deliver a world-class project that reflects Hines’ global vision and commitment to quality. The landmark building with its articulated façade and engaging ground plane will redefine the west-end of Australia’s most prestigious commercial address.”

“The contextual design aims to set a benchmark for office towers in Melbourne, and indeed Australia. With tenant experience at the forefront of our design response, our ambition is that 600 Collins St becomes an active partner with all tenants and visitors. A new hub for brand, culture and collaboration”.

600 Collins is scheduled to begin construction in January 2023.
