Architectus appointed to Creative West precinct in Footscray
Architectus is excited to announce our appointment to Creative West, a new cultural precinct in the heart of Melbourne’s Footscray.
The project will transform the site of the current Footscray Library and adjoining carpark into an inspiring performing arts venue, a world-class library, and a significant new town park.
“We’re so delighted to be selected to lead this game-changer of a project,” says Ruth Wilson, Principal, CCO and Sector Leader Public at Architectus. “It’s set to revitalise the centre of Footscray and become a magnet for the West.”
Working with Maribyrnong City Council and our design partners Public Realm Lab and GLAS, our practice will engage deeply to understand the needs, aspirations and dreams of this rapidly growing, diverse and vibrant community.
We look forward to developing a vision that reflects Footscray’s unique creative identity and provides essential cultural infrastructure for the growing western suburbs.
This phase of the project has received $5 million from the Australian Government under the urban Precincts and Partnerships Program. This grant has been matched by Council and will complete planning and detailed design for Creative West.
