Architectus has designed the master plan and concept design for a landmark mixed use development located within the Expo 2017 precinct in Astana, Kazakhstan. The brief called for a world class design that adds value to the existing precinct, is consumer focussed and has a strong sense of place.
The development comprises 3 sites, with 2 adjacent parcels providing a single and iconic site suitable for a tall tower, and a corner site which encourages a landmark location and gateway to the city.
At the centre site, a tall tower is positioned at the centre of the main axis through the Expo site to the CBD and represents the new iconic gateway to Astana. The tower and biodome forms at ground level provide a visual gateway connection to the Expo precinct and its iconic sphere. The design offers a mixed use vertical programme providing large premium-grade office floor plates at the lower levels, a luxury hotel and amenities at the mid-levels with serviced executive apartments in the high-rise levels.
The biodomes provide a protected environment that uses natural timber framed structures, housed under a large glass dome providing a mixed use program of spaces and places that enjoy a controlled and lush landscaped ecosystem to work, rest and play in all year round.
Proudly positioned at the edge of the Expo precinct, the corner site provides a landmark development on the main access route to and from the airport .
The podium levels and planetarium centre piece provide a spectacular arrival experience to a family of 4 towers which include a mix of premium offices, luxury hotel and executive serviced apartments, high quality residences, retail, restaurants and bars, convention, conferencing and entertainment opportunities all geared at connecting people and organisations in a high performance business centre.
Architectus’ master plan aligns with the city’s planning framework and goals for the important site which is to include the World Trade Centre Astana, Astana Financial Centre, Astana Diplomatic Core and various education facilities, including international schools, a science and innovation centre, university student accommodation and faculty residences.
