Westpac 123 Eagle Street provided an opportunity for the renewal and alignment of Westpac’s Brisbane office to their wider property portfolio.

We engaged with the client to formulate the aspirational and functional brief, and design of an exceptional workplace aligned with their guidelines and local requirements.

Stakeholder engagement, consultation and communication has been a critical part of the project and our methodology was designed to embrace the work undertaken to date, to galvanise diverse stakeholder groups within the organisation and Brisbane’s workplace vision, and bring people on the journey through close consultation with business units and operational staff.

The design response recognises the cultural importance of encompassing the local differentiators of Westpac’s Brisbane offices, and the importance of engagement with local stakeholders to ensure a local overlay to the design outcome.

Our methodology includes a series of interviews to gain an appreciation of the local Brisbane context, and any potential unique requirements and specialised areas that arose out of consultation.

We sought to understand the broader external community and cultural drivers of Westpac’s Brisbane team, appreciating their renowned community and charitable reach – this has included consultation with local indigenous groups, and translated into graphics and wayfinding used throughout the project.

The overall design response reflects the physical and climatic characteristics of Queensland, the particular light, temperature, colour, and culture. This is presented throughout a range of settings for client engagement and within the fabric of the workplace.

The client’s embrace of sustainability and its leadership in designing for diversity and inclusion sets an example to other global institutions. The project has successfully achieved a 6 Star Green Star – Interiors v1.2 rating in addition to aligning the design outcome to the Human Rights Commission Designing for Diversity Framework.
