In an alliance between the Western Sydney University (WSU) and Charter Hall, the Westmead Innovation Quarter proposal aims to bring together key WSU Institutes in collaboration with the Westmead Health Precinct and complementary commercial partners. The partnership between commercial and university tenants brings different educational facilities and commercial workplaces together to foster a diverse community and breeding ground for ideas.
Following our successful collaboration on 1 Parramatta Square with Charter Hall and a desire to continue the client-architect relationship, Architectus has undertaken work from the schematic design to DA submission and construction documentation. The Innovation Quarter will be a series of public realms that establish an attractive link with two PCA A Grade mixed-use retail, commercial, research and educational buildings to create an innovation hub for mixed-use workplaces. The two buildings frame specific views, one acknowledging St Vincent’s Boy’s Home, a heritage building with an enormous thread of historical events, and the innovative health district to the north.
The project will create sustainable spaces that people will feel happy occupying. The buildings have several floors of commercial and education space, retail, a child care facility, end-of-trip facilities and private roof terraces. The laboratories and workspaces will accommodate academics, clinicians, postgraduate students and research assistants and provide spaces for collaborative research and community groups. When it reaches completion, the Innovation Quarter will bring exciting activation opportunities to Westmead.
