Werrington Park Corporate Centre
Western Sydney University
Built, March 2015
The Werrington Park Corporate Centre, located at Western Sydney University’s South Campus in Penrith, is an innovative commercial office and research centre designed to meet the demand for new high-tech industries and knowledge economy jobs in one of the fastest growing economic regions in Australia.
The three-storey flagship building is conceived as two vessels placed aside a waterbank representing the affinity between Western Sydney traditional landowners and the Hawkesbury River. The vessels cantilever off the natural slope to gently engage the site and establish a series of open and shaded areas beneath. Qualities of rainwater capture and re-use support sustainable water consumption while its reflective and calming qualities reinforce our connection with the precious natural resource.
Tenancies are split either side of a central atrium which defines the social heart of the building with its café and breakout spaces, and enhances natural daylight within. Floorplates are highly flexible with significant visual transparency and physical connectivity.
Intrinsic to the arrival experience is a three dimensional art installation by Chinese-Aboriginal Australian artist Jason Wing, who used fishing nets and painted aluminium tubing to create ‘Memory Flows’, which remind us of the importance of water for the traditional landowners; the Darug people.
Werrington Park Corporate Centre has achieved a GBCA 5 Star Green Star Design and As-Built 4.5 Star NABERS Rating.
