Architectus’ concept for this site at the heart of Brisbane’s vibrant Fortitude Valley proposes a major new mixed-use civic precinct with new commercial, residential and retail facilities integrated with the existing rail infrastructure.
Valley Metro is a complex site which incorporates the Fortitude Valley Rail Station alongside commercial and retail assets. Owners LaSalle Investment Management sought to unlock the unique air-rights opportunity and value of the site, and have planned for a staged development that allows commercial and rail infrastructure to remain in operation.
The 23 storey commercial tower is the first stage in this $500 million transformation of the station precinct with an adjacent 30 storey residential tower providing 207 dwellings, a rooftop communal area, two floors of retail space and car parking across a 7 level podium.
The design is inspired by ‘subtropical urbanism’ – urban spaces that are cool, open, shaded, porous, green and informal. Consisting of covered lanes, stepped gardens, permeable under crofts, green ‘mesh’ spaces such as public sky gardens and terraces, winter sun dishes, breezeway shared spaces and courtyards as ‘cool tanks’.
