Architectus in association with HDR has designed the new Sunshine Coast Health Institute (SCHI) at the Sunshine Coast University Hospital (SCUH). The project is a collaboration between the Sunshine Coast Hospital and Health Service and Tertiary Education Providers. The facility is used to train new health professionals and to provide ongoing training for existing professionals.
The SCHI facilities are positioned within SCUH to make the research and teaching functions highly visible. The unique circular auditorium and SCHI teaching spaces are viewed on approach to the hospital Main Entry.
SCHI provides high and low fidelity Simulation Suites, Problem Based Learning Rooms, PC2 wet labs, Multipurpose teaching spaces, Clinical Demonstration Classrooms, Practice Development Laboratories, Library, Auditorium, Lecture Theatres, Student Work Areas, Staff Work Areas, End of Trip Facilities, a dedicated SCHI Server Room, and staff and student amenities.
The quality of the Sunshine Coast Health Institute is an important element in attracting and retaining high quality staff and students at the hospital.
The SCUH has become the largest public healthcare facility in Australia to achieve the building industry’s highest honour with a 6 Star rating under the Green Star system for its design and operation.
