We designed and delivered a new fit out of an existing 1990s commercial floorplate including three new Courtrooms, Members’ Chambers, Registry and associated offices within 6 weeks of engagement.
Occupying existing internalised premises with confusing circulation patterns, the Queensland Industrial Relations Commission requested the new fit out provide a clarity of planning and design which is welcoming and allows visitors to easily understand the layout and their options for movement throughout the floor.
Responding to this brief, we provided a simple and clear arrangement of Courtrooms and circulation sequences utilising natural daylight wherever possible.
The new Courtrooms are provided with high level glazing to maximise natural light ingress to internal spaces thus providing visual connection and orientation through the premises from Reception to Waiting Areas through to Courtrooms. Glazed partitions to Members’ Chambers continue the ingress of natural light to Associate’s offices adjacent.
A simple material palette including Australian hardwood timbers and subtly coloured fabric acoustic wall panels provide a calm and dignified experience for QIRC staff and visitors.
