The Olivia Newton-John (ONJ) Cancer and Wellness Centre, stands out for its holistic architectural design within the healthcare sector.
Inspired by Newton-John’s advocacy, the centre combines state-of-the-art clinical facilities with spaces that cater to the mental and emotional well-being of patients and their families.
Designed in partnership with Jackson Architecture, the Centre has a domestic feel that belies its complex range of functions, including extensive inpatient and outpatient services, laboratory research capabilities, and focused wellness offerings.
The restorative impact of fresh air, light and nature
A pivotal design element, the courtyard acts as a therapeutic space and a navigational guide. Bringing in plenty of daylight, fresh air, and access to nature, the space has a restorative effect.
Used for a range of therapeutic and educational purposes, the courtyard gives patients, families and carers respite from the more clinical spaces.
Multi-connected services
The ONJ Centre offers an extensive range of services such as radiation oncology, chemotherapy, palliative care and research labs. The co-location of these services ensures a seamless patient journey, reducing the need for travel between different facilities.
While it stands as a comprehensive standalone facility, the ONJ Centre maintains strong ties to the existing Austin Hospital, ensuring that resources and expertise can be pooled as required.
Positioned adjacent to crucial support zones like dedicated pharmaceutical and research labs, the design ensures that every aspect of a patient’s treatment journey is within easy reach.
