The O Pavilion represents a bold reimagining of the workplace experience in a post-pandemic world.
As the new front door to the Optus Campus at Macquarie Park, O Pavilion is a physical and symbolic gateway to a future of work that is adaptive, human-centred, and deeply connected to place.
The project is central to Optus’ Amazing@Work master planning initiative and the revitalisation of the company’s campus. The work is designed to foster meaningful engagement between staff, collaborators, and visitors.
The pavilion was conceived as an inviting arrival experience with spaces to support a spectrum of activity, from high-impact events to quiet moments of collaboration and reflection.
The architecture is deliberately light touch—refined and permeable—establishing an open dialogue between people, technology, and nature.
The curved form of the pavilion embraces the contours of the site. This results in a seamless threshold between the built and natural environments.
Framing the surrounding landscape, the design encourages connection between people and the unique ecology of the campus. The building opens out to the O Lawn, a social and cultural node within the broader garden experience that defines the Optus campus.
The project reimagines the visitor journey, making it immersive, intuitive, and warmly welcoming.
Natural light, tactile materials, and biophilic design principles help create a sensory-rich environment that fosters connection and wellbeing.
A series of spatial thresholds—shifting in texture, tone, and light—guide visitors into a place of calm, creativity, and collaboration. Technology is seamlessly embedded throughout the pavilion. This enhances the user experience while allowing people and place to remain the focus.
The building’s openness to the elements ensures that users remain attuned to seasonal changes, with the sun’s movement, rainfall, and breeze reinforcing a sense of place.
This is complemented by the elegant floating roof and glass-to-ceiling threshold which balances sculptural boldness with a sense of warmth and generosity, seamlessly connecting architecture, landscape, and the broader campus.
A deep respect for Country guided the design process. Through a partnership with Balarinji, the project acknowledges the cultural heritage of the Wallumadegal people and the ecological significance of the land.
The project’s design principles were inspired by turpentine forest bio-regions, which are rare in the Sydney basin. They informed the site’s material palette, planting strategy, and spatial planning. Outdoor gathering spaces and community decks reflect First Nations values of knowledge-sharing, connection, and stewardship.
Sustainability was approached holistically. Prefabricated and modular structures provide flexibility for future adaptation. Natural ventilation, deep roof eaves, and endemic planting reduce energy and water use.
The O Pavilion is more than a workplace destination—it’s the new campus heart and a flexible canvas for future ideas.
