Melbourne Airport Rail (MAR) is a flagship rail project for both the Victorian and Commonwealth governments who have committed up to $5b each to deliver the project. The new rail link will enable residents, visitors and business people to connect from the airport to regional Victoria and Melbourne CBD via Sunshine. The Victorian Government has announced that Rail Projects Victoria (RPV) will be developing an initial cost estimation for Melbourne Airport Rail as well as leading the planning for Victoria’s next round of rail investment.
Architectus has been engaged to assist RPV and the appointed Technical Advisor AJM (Aurecon, Jacobs and Mott MacDonald) to develop the concept design for the proposed rail link to Melbourne Airport, including other projects under the Western Rail Plan (WRP). WRP consists of a series of future rail projects which are in early stages of planning, feasibility and design. These projects will provide Victoria with a faster, high-capacity rail network that services the state’s growing suburbs and regional cities.
Architectus is collaborating with RPV, the AJM JV team and stakeholders to inform the business case for Melbourne Airport Rail and wider opportunities for the project corridor from Sunshine to Melbourne Airport. We are evolving the design of the airport train station and other key stations, along with urban design and landscape strategies for key precincts. These concepts will assist with the communication and alignment of broader project goals and place making initiatives between various government agencies with a shared interest in the delivery of the airport rail link.
