Situated on a mixed-use industrial estate, McMahon Services Australia’s renewed head office transforms a simple shed into a contemporary, people-centric workplace.
Our Interiors team refurbished existing work areas and converted a former mechanical workshop into flexible, light-filled spaces that prioritise wellbeing and collaboration.
The result is a headquarters that responds to its robust industrial setting while celebrating McMahon Services as both builder and client in a welcoming, future-ready environment.
Designed for connection and wellbeing
A new mezzanine and statement spiral stair physically and visually connect floors, while a welcoming “main street” links reception, café and work zones, encouraging informal interaction between teams.
New windows and extensive indoor planting connect every space to the outdoors, improving access to natural light, views and air quality.
A calm, earthy palette, including terracotta tones and warm timber, creates a welcoming atmosphere for staff and visitors.
Showcasing construction craft
As both client and builder, McMahon asked for spaces that clearly demonstrate their construction skills, attention to detail and commitment to employees and clients.
Honest, robust materials, including custom glass reinforced concrete elements, designed with McMahon’s subsidiary Asurco, celebrate construction craft, turning everyday spaces into a living showcase of the company’s capability.
A new workstyle: open, flexible and rich with choices
After extensive consultation with staff and leaders, McMahon adopted a new way of working: no traditional private offices. Instead, teams are grouped into open workstation “neighbourhoods”, defined by timber elements and clearly identified, colour-rich zones.
Each team now has an AV-equipped meeting room that can act as a private workspace, a focus room or a group space. These are supported by a mix of bookable meeting rooms in various sizes, softly furnished quiet booths, quiet rooms with colour accents, and a dedicated no-noise library for concentrated work.
