Brabham Primary School adheres to the WA Government’s standard pattern building template system but also strategically diverges from it to support contemporary teaching and learning.
Our central challenge was to meet the particular needs of students and teachers while still conforming to the material selection, detailing and construction methods required by the state’s program and the primary school brief.
Three new buildings use the remaining tight spaces on the Brabham campus to increase capacity by approximately 400 students. The buildings are:
-A kindergarten block completing the existing kindergarten and pre‑primary component of the school
-An education support building for children with additional needs – a unique State-provided facility with a dedicated hydrotherapy pool, gym, life skills room, classrooms and support spaces
-A two-storey teaching block housing a collegiate centre for teachers and 16 classrooms, including for specialist arts and science learning.
Given the constraints of the site and the specific brief, both the support building and teaching feature bespoke designs.
By adapting pattern-book construction methods and materials to meet the school’s unique needs, we delivered cost-effective, low-maintenance, and student-friendly facilities – all while the school remained fully operational.
To fulfil our ambition for an efficient and legible school campus, we also created two landscaped courtyards lined with verandas.

-Material sensitivity – Thoughtful selection of colours, textures, and materials creating a comfortable environment for students with different sensory needs
