Architectus Sydney Studio
Built, March 2015
5 Star NABERS Energy Rating
The Architectus Sydney studio fit out strips back the 1970s MLC Centre to its essentials and celebrates the massive concrete structure. The raw bones of the building are contrasted with finely finished materials, carefully selected design pieces and touches of restrained colour.
Moving to a traditional office floorplate with a central core from a side core open plan workspace provided its own set of challenges yet the new flexible and collaborative workspace neighbourhoods formed around the core provide intimate and productive work environments.
Each neighbourhood has a collection of different types of work areas with 100% sit-stand workstations, quiet areas, collaboration and informal meeting spaces. Except for the formal meeting rooms, which are enclosed with curved glass walls and suspended perforated acoustic ceilings, all furniture can be moved around for added flexibility.
Technology provides added connectivity between neighbourhoods along with other Architectus studios and lighting has been carefully designed to celebrate the concrete structure and maximise the feeling of space.
The traditional staff kitchen has been transformed into a high quality gathering place and is subtly screened from the formal reception area with a gently curved leather-upholstered wall.
