Architectus and Singapore-based WOHA were commissioned to undertake Queensland’s first truly subtropical apartment tower, 443 Queen St. The tower is designed for Australia’s northern climate to catch the breezes and shade from the sun, and as a habitable, living subtropical garden.
Each ‘home in the sky’ has a unique identity and a unique address. Careful planning affords each apartment a view to the river and naturally ventilated environment, negating much of the need for air conditioning.
Sophisticated, crafted interiors include flowing proportions and luxurious materials. Living rooms and kitchens are open plan, with adjacent decks for living en plein air.
Generous kitchens seamlessly connect to living spaces and are meticulously detailed with high-end appliances, natural materials and bespoke detailing such as custom designed timber joinery handles. Full height windows capture views, natural light and fresh air.
Bathroom fittings are meticulously selected and include teardrop pendant lights and deep egg-shaped baths complemented with a warm, organic palette of timber and stone throughout. Items such as towel rails, robe hooks and shower shelves are custom designed by the architects and made in Australia. Screened drying balconies adjacent to the bathrooms and laundries provide private spaces with fresh air for clothes drying and other ‘back yard’ purposes – a huge luxury in a city apartment.
