When Parramatta City Council resolved to secure planning approvals for Site 1 of the Parramatta Square renewal area, Architectus was engaged to work with Council to secure planning approvals for the proposed new 40 000 m2 commercial building. Architectus was also the project architect following a successful design competition process.

Following the design and approvals process, the site was purchased by Charter Hall and developed in accordance with the approvals. Architectus was retained by Charter Hall to provide design and planning services through to completion for the transformation of the design competition wining office building into a vertical education campus for Western Sydney University.

Designed to achieve a 5 Star Green Star and 5 Star NABERS Energy Rating, careful consideration was given to the treatment of the ground plane and the public spaces created around and under the building. Retail frontages, with a 2-storey colonnade space, activate Smith Street while to the west a new laneway is visually activated by passenger lifts servicing the building within a glass core. A small cafe tenancy provides retail presence on the north-south pedestrian link.
