A strategic thinker and skilled problem-solver, Olaf specialises in transport projects but also has significant experience in the commercial and retail sectors. His career has spanned Germany, the United Kingdom, the United States, Australia, and New Zealand; Olaf’s broad influences and open-minded approach to design and architecture is grounded in this international experience. He understands that great architecture and urban planning reflects geographic and human context.

Olaf’s technical skill is evident across his work – seen in his ability to analyse requirements, conceptualise and evaluate design solutions, and collaborate with engineers and government sectors.

After spending the first half of his career working on commercial projects, Olaf’s focus shifted predominantly to city shaping rail projects. He believes that good station design begins through understanding the rail alignment and the station’s location within its precinct. Only from this foundation can a great station – one that provides efficient people movement through enjoyable spaces – take form.

His recent portfolio covers some of Australia’s most significant transport infrastructure upgrades in Melbourne, Sydney and Brisbane. He thrives on the complexity of these projects on which he fosters a forum for the open exchange of ideas between designers, stakeholders, contractors, and clients.

A calm, people-focused leader with a gentle leadership style, Olaf enjoys sharing knowledge and industry wisdom through his role as a mentor. Watching colleagues develop and succeed professionally gives him great satisfaction.
