Two projects shortlisted for 2019 World Architecture News Awards

Architectus makes shortlist for World Architecture News Awards

We are delighted that two Architectus projects have been recognised in the 2019 World Architecture News Awards.

The Faculty of the Arts and Social Sciences (FASS), University of Sydney is shortlisted for this years’ ‘Education’ category, and Royal Far West Centre for Excellence (RFW) is a contender for the ‘Healthcare’ category.

Sydney University’s new Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences (FASS) aims to express the transformation of Australia’s oldest university campus through a restrained and timeless expression of connection, collaboration, community, art, and heritage.

Comprising a new teaching and learning facility and extensive refurbishment of the heritage RD Watt Building, Architectus’ design responds to the university’s “Wingara Mura” strategy, expressing a deep connection with its former landscape, broader campus context, and strong cultural connection.

Royal Far West Centre for Excellence (RFW)

The Royal Far West (RFW) Centre for Country Kids is a compact 6-storey building located in Manly. The centre provides a fully integrated model of healthcare for children from rural and remote areas of New South Wales – a legacy that has been undertaken on this significant and iconic site for over 90 years.

Through a combined urban design, architectural and landscape design response, the new centre supports RFW’s integrated model of health, education and disability services, caringly blurring the line between a learning setting and consultation setting to create a light-filled and engaging place, with active and passive spaces and smaller spaces for consultation, that is the physical embodiment of care for country kids.
