Architectus Urban Design and Planning explore active travel to school

At the core of urban design and planning is the objective to create great places for people to live, learn, and interact.

Architectus was proud to be commissioned by the Heart Foundation to conduct research into how simple streetscape changes to the areas surrounding schools (in urban and suburban contexts) can increase the number of students walking, cycling, and scooting to school.

Based on the research for the Active Travel to School Urban Design Study, Architectus recommended improvements that create safer and more comfortable conditions for walking to school. Pedestrian crossings, kerb extensions, and signal light reprogramming can be implemented at minimal cost per school.
