Protecting the future of the beloved MCG
This week, the Victorian Minister for Sport and Major Events Steve Dimopoulos announced Architectus, in partnership with Foster + Partners and MANICA, as the Lead Designer to support the Melbourne Cricket Ground Redevelopment Business Case.
Working closely with AECOM as Engineering Consultant, the business case will review the current state of MCG, including the ageing Shane Warne Stand, and outline options for a potential future redevelopment to meet the contemporary facilities that athletes and visitors require.
The MCG is the largest sporting stadium in the southern hemisphere and has held some of the most attended spectacles in the world, with work underway on a redevelopment business case to ensure the stadium and precinct maintains its world-class status for decades to come.
“Architectus, Foster + Partners and MANICA are proud to be working with the Melbourne Cricket Club, the Victorian Government and our design partners to re-imagine the next evolution of this iconic venue. Our focus will be on honouring everything Melburnians already cherish about the MCG while exploring how it can continue to set a global benchmark for fan experience, accessibility and atmosphere for decades to come.” – Mark van den Enden, Group Director Communities
