MTalks: Designing for the new public
On Monday 11 April at MPavilion in Melbourne, Clients + Communications Principal, Ruth Wilson will moderate a panel discussion on the future of public design in a changing world.
The esteemed panel will include Kate Torney, CEO at Peter MacCallum Cancer Foundation, Claire Martin, Associate Director at Oculus and President of the Australian Institute of Landscape Architects, and Dr Stephen Long, National Public Sector Leader at Architectus.
What imprint has the unpredictable, sometimes unfathomable, global pandemic left on who we are as ‘the public’?
Over the course of their prolific careers, the panel members have each, in different ways, been tasked with understanding who ‘the public’ is, and how place and space can respond to public needs and wants. They will explore what they can see and understand from the meaning of ‘public’ today – and muse on its possible futures in the design of our civic places and spaces.
MPavilion is an ongoing initiative of the Naomi Milgrom Foundation and is supported by the City of Melbourne, the State Government of Victoria through Creative Victoria. It is Australia’s leading architecture commission—a cultural laboratory where the community can come together to engage and share.
