Do our cities need better precincts?
The best precincts bring people together and create places that become part of everyday life.
We spoke with Principal, and Sector Leader Commercial, Andy Low from our Melbourne Studio about why great cities need great precincts, and how thoughtful design can help shape them.
A great precinct is one that encourages people to linger, whether that’s grabbing a coffee, meeting friends, taking a break from work or simply enjoying a green space in the city. Through landscape design, these places can reconnect people with the natural environment while supporting vibrant urban life.
At 242 Exhibition Street, this thinking is central to the project. The landscape has been designed to create an inviting, people-focused destination that contributes to the wider city experience. By integrating greenery, public space and opportunities for social interaction, the precinct aims to foster a stronger sense of community and wellbeing.
For Andy, successful precincts are about creating places people genuinely want to visit, and keep coming back to. When design supports connection, comfort and a sense of place, a good precinct becomes a great one.
