A week later, Architectus joined Open House Melbourne with Coffee with an Architect: A Glimpse into Studio Life, opening the doors of our Melbourne studio (below) for a series of intimate sessions.
Aligned with this year’s Open House Melbourne theme, Generous City, the event encouraged conversations about how cities can foster participation, share knowledge and create spaces for belonging. Guests had the chance to tour a working architecture studio, view projects in progress and hear directly from our architects about how ideas move from sketch to model to city.
Discussions explored design thinking, interdisciplinary collaboration and the opportunities and responsibilities that come with creating places that serve both clients and the broader community. In the spirit of generosity that underpinned the program, we welcomed significantly more visitors than originally ticketed, with approximately 60 people attending the studio sessions.
Our staff also led a series of guided tours at the State Library Victoria, one of Melbourne’s most significant civic institutions. Marking the library’s 170th anniversary, the tours explored how decades of careful renewal and contemporary additions have helped the building remain accessible, welcoming and relevant to diverse communities.
Visitors heard directly from the architects involved in the library’s revitalisation, learning how heritage and contemporary design work together to support a wide range of users.
By opening our studios and sharing our work through the Open House program, Architectus continues our commitment to public engagement, knowledge sharing and fostering greater understanding of the role design plays in creating thriving, inclusive cities.
