Re-Coding Adelaide: Architectus 15th Annual Design Charrette kicks off
Over the next three days, more than 60 designers from across Australia will gather to take on a unique urban challenge for our 15th annual design Charrette. The focus this year is Thebarton, a site located just outside the Adelaide city grid, now positioned as the inner ring of a conurbation that must redefine itself as a capital city for the 22nd century.
Formed collaboratively by our national studios, including members from Architectus Conrad Gargett and Architectus Aotearoa, the five design teams will join forces to reimagine Thebarton and explore potential paths to its revitalisation. Their goal is to spark conversation and build momentum by synthesizing innovative ideas.
The mission ahead involves repairing the river and revitalising Thebarton’s pre-colonial landscape, creating an innovative form of parkland. Additionally, the challenge includes examining the meaning of Reconciliation within this context and navigating the process of Designing with Country while acknowledging the colonial history that shaped the city of Adelaide.
To mark the 15th year of the design Charrette, day one will begin with an impressive lineup of industry-leading speakers who will inspire and provide valuable insights to the teams. The speakers include:
- Karl Winda Telfer, Co-founder of Yellaka
- Daniel Bennett, Principal Integrated Design at Aurecon
- Kirsteen Mackay, State Government Architect of South Australia
- Veronica Soebarto, Professor at the University of Adelaide
