John Strand

John studied at The University of Auckland and graduated in 2003 with 1st Class Honours. Following three years working on educational projects in New Zealand, he travelled overseas and gained a position at Chapman Taylor in London. Here he spent three years working as a senior team member on Saint David’s 2, a mixed-use urban regeneration project in Cardiff, Wales. The design and build project was the largest retail development in the United Kingdom at the time.

Through his role on the contractor’s design team, he understands the importance of well articulated client requirements and the ability of the contractor to add value through innovative design solutions to achieve the client’s requirements.

John returned to New Zealand and joined Architectus in 2010, where he played a key role on the Campus Hub and Library at Victoria University of Wellington. The project was a joint venture by Athfield Architectus, with John leading the documentation and delivery of the new central building for the Architectus team over a three year period. The central building provided a new heart to the campus, interfacing between social and library learning spaces and accommodating the new library reading room

Recently John has played a key role in the design and documentation of the envelope for the B302 Science Centre at The University of Auckland.
